Weighed against your GVM
Aluminium trays, canopies, bull bars and underbody protection, fitted properly by the same team that services the vehicle. Set up for touring or set up for work, and weighed against your GVM before you commit.
Trays
A tray turns a ute into a work vehicle or a touring platform. Get it right and it carries what you need without eating your payload. Get it wrong and you have bought weight you cannot use.
We fit aluminium trays because the weight saving over steel goes straight back into what you can legally carry, and because they do not rust out from the inside after five Queensland summers. Trade tray or touring tray, the questions are the same: what are you carrying, how often, and where does it need to sit.
Canopies
A ute canopy is where most of the weight goes on a touring or trade build, so it is where the planning matters most. We fit an aluminium canopy as a standalone unit or as a full tray and canopy package.
Doors where you need them, an internal layout that suits how you load, and mounting done properly so it is not working itself loose on corrugations by the second trip.
On a touring build we will usually talk about the 12V system at the same time, because running the wiring before the canopy is finished is a lot easier than after.
Protection
We are an authorised Hamer 4x4 dealer. A bull bar does four jobs: frontal protection, a mount for lights and aerials, a winch mount, and a proper recovery point. It also adds 60 to 80 kilograms to the front. We weigh the front after fitting and tell you whether the suspension needs matching.
Bash plates, sump guards and rock sliders round it out. A cracked sump three hours from the nearest town is an expensive day and a long wait. Rock sliders do the same job down the sides and double as a jacking point.
Worth knowing
Bull bar, canopy, drawers, water, dual battery, tools, fuel and passengers. Plenty of dual cabs are over their legal GVM before they have left the driveway, and most owners have no idea.
We weigh the risk before you commit and recommend a GVM upgrade only if the numbers say you need one. Every tray and bar fitment finishes with a wheel alignment.

Often, yes. A steel bull bar adds 60 to 80 kilograms to the front, which sits the nose down and takes a bite out of your front axle capacity. We check the front weight after fitting.
Aluminium is lighter and does not rust, which matters when you are fighting a GVM limit. Steel is cheaper and takes a knock better on a job site. Most touring and trade customers go aluminium.
A straightforward package is usually a few days in the workshop. Add a 12V system, drawers and water and it stretches out. You get a clear timeframe up front.
It can, especially on a dual cab that already has a bull bar and a full tank. We weigh the risk before you commit. If you are close, see GVM upgrades.
Yes, and it is the better way to buy it. A tray and canopy designed together sit right, seal right and weigh less than two things bolted together later. Ask about the 12V fitout at the same time.
